I feel like I live for the future too much. I motivate myself with it. Like, if I can just do what I need to do now and get through this shitty day, it will be so much fun this summer because…
Or, it’s okay that you’re completely unhappy with yourself now because self improvement is nearly impossible NOW, but in the future, you’ll do everything right. Things will come easy, and you’ll be happy. It’s a way to get through now, but should I be getting through now? Should now be this hard? What can I do to change now, I can only do things now to change the future, but doing things now makes now suck even more, so instead I fantasize about how great the future will be without doing the things now that would benefit me in the future. I hurt myself in this way, but I don’t know how to stop.

and that, in summary, is the fkd up human condition. i did the exact same thing for years. i felt the same way. when you’re ready to really make a change, read The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. it’s changed my life.
something to remember, there is no such thing as the past or the future. they are only constructs of either memory or anticipatory fantasy… the only thing that is real, that has ever truly existed, is the present moment. its fleeting. and can only be manipulated HERE AND NOW. dont be fooled into thinking that the future will save you. NOW will save you if you stand up and own your current situation - and if you don’t like it, CHANGE IT. but do it now. don’t wait for the future. because the future never really comes.
